Employment Agency Annual Award Dinner

The Near
Southside Employment Coalition (NSEC)
will hold its annual dinner September 9 at SqWires
Restaurant Annex, 1415 S. 18th Street, at 6:30pm. A video
presentation, recognition of program graduates, and employers who have
benefited by hiring the NSEC graduates will highlight the evening.
Neighbors,
employers, churches and other sponsors of this unique collaborative program
serving the unemployed and underemployed residents of south St. Louis will
gather to celebrate 28 years of success.
Notable sponsors and supporters of the agency over the years have included
Nestle Purina, Incarnate Word Foundation and Ameren UE. This years supporters include Vatterott
Foundation, Pettus Foundation and the Fifth Third Foundation, whose combined
contributions amount to $11,000. All
used to help individuals find jobs.
NSEC also celebrates 28 years of
collaboration of churches and social service agencies in the area, who decided
in 1983 to pool their limited resources into a joint employment services
effort. One of the longest lasting joint
efforts of its’ kind, NSEC has assisted over 6,000 individuals with
finding jobs, 600 completed training in technical skills, and 1000 teenagers experience summer
internships with salaries underwritten by Nestle Purina.
Sponsors over the years have included 5
local companies and 25 local foundations or charitable giving
groups.
NSEC provides training and job placement
services at two Southside locations, its main office at 2649 Pestalozzi Street
and Kingdom House, 1321 South 11th Street.
