                   Employment Agency Annual Award Dinner

The Near Southside Employment Coalition (NSEC) will hold its annual dinner September 9 at SqWires Restaurant Annex, 1415 S. 18th Street, at 6:30pm.  A video presentation, recognition of program graduates, and employers who have benefited by hiring the NSEC graduates will highlight the evening.

Neighbors, employers, churches and other sponsors of this unique collaborative program serving the unemployed and underemployed residents of south St. Louis will gather to celebrate 28 years of success.  Notable sponsors and supporters of the agency over the years have included Nestle Purina, Incarnate Word Foundation and Ameren UE.  This years supporters include Vatterott Foundation, Pettus Foundation and the Fifth Third Foundation, whose combined contributions amount to $11,000.  All used to help individuals find jobs.

NSEC also celebrates 28 years of collaboration of churches and social service agencies in the area, who decided in 1983 to pool their limited resources into a joint employment services effort.  One of the longest lasting joint efforts of its’ kind, NSEC has assisted over 6,000 individuals with finding jobs, 600 completed training in technical skills, and  1000 teenagers experience summer internships with salaries underwritten by Nestle Purina.

Sponsors over the years have included 5 local companies and 25 local foundations or charitable giving groups.

NSEC provides training and job placement services at two Southside locations, its main office at 2649 Pestalozzi Street and Kingdom House, 1321 South 11th Street.
